Subject: Sweet Recording.
This recording made me buy the Crane Wife cd, which made me buy picaresque, which made me buy Her Majesty, etc. All the way through the commercially available catalog. As I was exhausting that I started grabbing the Decemberists and Meloy solo stuff available on the NPR site - there is plenty. Now I'm making my way through the auds and handful of sbds here in the archive.
Darn shame that this tour got cut short, but we're very fortunate that someone captured and uploaded this night and the next from the first stop on the tour. Thanks to the taper and to the band for allowing taping.
I haven't heard *bad* decemberists shows, they are a very good live band, but this show is over and above. All of the songs in this show are performed very well, colin is in great voice, the band is tight but loose in the having fun sense - no indication that someone is having health issues. Echoes could have used a little more seasoning, it's not as perfect as the other performances. Not *bad*, just not perfect. And for gosh sake, it's Echoes. How cool is that?
I find myself wondering if the encore slot for the Long of It shows would have always included Echoes, or if the band had other big covers worked up for the tour. Alas we'll never know.
I've only been fortunate enough to see the band once, on the King is Dead tour. Even without Jenny they were spectacular.
If I have one critical thing to say it's that the levels are a bit low - so it's not a great recording to listen to when I'm jogging as it's not loud enough with the ipod on max volume. On a home system where there's volume to spare it's not a problem.
Subject: Great all the way around!
Subject: Great show.
Subject: I was there.
The sound quality on the FLAC's is very good. It is a shame The Decemberists have not authorized streaming availability for the archive service.
By the way I meant to say 5 stars, not 4!
I consider this concert to be in the top 15 of concerts I have been to and I have been to a lot more than 15 concerts.
Subject: Excellent good
Thanks for the upload.
a.) great recording quality
b.) an amazing concert
c.) a quality band
d.) many other superlatives
Thank you, I missed this concert as well. This is one of the best things I've found on IA.
Also. The Decemberists doing Pink Floyd - Meddle Side Two - Echoes ? One of the singularly most awesome things I have ever heard. I so badly wish I could have been at this concert.
